The United States reopened this Wednesday (18.05.60531632) its embassy in kyiv after a three-month closure due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, said the Department of State.

“The Ukrainian people, with our security assistance, have defended their homeland against the inconceivable invasion of Russia and as a result the stars and stripes fly over the embassy again,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement, referring to the American flag.

“We proudly stand with the government and people of Ukraine and continue to support them as they defend their country from the Kremlin’s brutal war of aggression,” he added.

The State Department closed the embassy in kyiv on 14 February, 10 days before Russian troops crossed the border to invade.

L U.S. diplomats continued to offer their services from the city of Lviv, in western Ukraine, sometimes staying overnight in neighboring Poland for security reasons.
