The new Disney plan that includes advertising will show up to 4 minutes of this type of content per hour in series and movies that have a duration equal to or less than 1 hour. Reports published by portals such as Variety and The Wall Street Journal indicate that the new plan could reach the market this year.
If these reports are confirmed, Disney Plus would become one of the streaming platforms with the least amount of advertising. Other companies like Hulu have between 9 and 44 minutes, in the case of Peacock they show about 5 minutes of advertising per hour, while HBO also has 4 minutes.
The content that appears in advertisements is another of Disney’s focuses. Sources assure that the company will not allow any type of content that could damage its image of being a company aimed at family entertainment .
For that reason ads for liquor companies, politics or adult content would be completely ruled out. Disney will also prevent advertisers from displaying advertising on its service that includes content from other streaming platforms.
In this same sense Disney allegedly plans that the child profiles found on the platform will not receive any type of advertising content.
The arrival of a cheaper plan that will include advertising was announced by Disney Plus last March. According to the information published by the company, the new subscription could be released in the United States during the last months of this 2022. Said package would be available for the rest of the world during the course of the year 2023.
At the moment details of the plan are not known, such as its price, however it should be less than $7.99 that users currently pay for the ad-free version.
With this new plan Disney Plus expects to continue to grow its subscriber base which increased over the last quarter by more than 7.9 million subscribers. It is estimated that in the United States and Canada alone, the service already has more than 44 million active accounts for a total of 137.7 million users worldwide.
Netflix, its main competitor, is also expected to launch a similar plan as part of the company’s bid to reduce the loss of subscribers it has registered since the beginning of the year.
