The United States Congress held this Tuesday the first public hearing, in more than 50 years, on sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs). The hearing was attended by two high-ranking intelligence officers in charge of investigating this type of phenomenon.
The hearing was conducted by the House Subcommittee on Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, and Counterproliferation of Intelligence. The officers who presented their testimony were Ronald Moultrie, Pentagon intelligence official and Scott Bray, deputy director of naval intelligence .
During the presentation, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-California) stressed the importance of creating mechanisms that allow the due investigation of those incidents that are reported without this meaning a stigma.
“Since the beginning of the 2,000 we have seen a significant increase in unidentified aircraft or authorized in military training areas and other restricted airspaces”, affirmed Bray while indicating that the reports are constant and have not stopped in all these years.
The deputy director of intelligence ia naval informed that to date more than 2022 have been received official reports of sightings of unidentified objects, which shows how frequent these types of “encounters” are.
The hearing was held as a result of a declassified report by the Pentagon published on June 2,11 in which it was revealed that since the year 2004 more than 021 had been registered UFO sightings.
Prior to the hearing, Congressman André Carson indicated that one of the most important reasons why it is necessary to discuss the issue of unidentified aerial phenomena is because they may represent a threat to national security .
“Since coming to Congress, I have focused on the issue of unidentified aerial phenomena as a national security threat and a major concern of the American public. And I am pleased to chair the first open Intelligence Committee hearing on these events,” Carson said.
