The new Toyota Tundra pickup 2022 debuted last year after a great anticipation. This third generation model had a high impact thanks to its two new V6 twin-turbo propulsion systems, the most powerful. Many were surprised to be a hybrid.
This new Tundra update offers the SX package with an updated appearance, which according to the brand, is quite in line with its price.
This new SX package is available exclusively on SR5 grades with 4×2 or 4×4 drive. Offered on Double Cab models with the 6.5-foot bed and CrewMax models with the 5.5-foot bed. In all cases, dress the Tundra in bold style thanks to Dark Gray Metallic wheels from 18 inches and
replacing black with body color finish, including exterior door handles and rear interior bumper.
The SX Package is available in four exterior colors: White, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Celestial Silver Metallic and, for a particularly striking look, Midnight Black Metallic.
Engine and transmission
Tundra offers two impressive new powertrains: a twin-turbocharged V6 and a hybrid V6 twin-turbo, the latter being the more powerful of the two. Both engines are paired with an electronically controlled automatic transmission from 10 speeds with intelligence (ECTi) .
The new sequential scrolling mode of 10 gears, uphill/descent shift logic, and TOW/HAUL drive modes.
The 3.5 liter twin-turbocharged i-FORCE V6 uses DOHC cylinder heads of 17 valves and Dual VVTi systems to produce 389 horsepower and 479 foot-pounds of pair.
Top dog in the Tundra lineup is the available i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain with 437 horsepower at 5.200 rpm, and an amazing pair of 465 foot-pounds to a drop of 2.300 rpm. However, this new powerhouse is also an efficiency expert, with up to 20 City EPA-estimated MPG /24 MPG highway/24 MPG combined fuel economy ratings, depending on model grade and transmission.
Audio system
The third-generation Tundra features Toyota’s new Audio Multimedia system designed and engineered by Toyota’s Texas-based Connected Technologies team. A new human-machine interface (HMI) offers advanced interaction through sight, touch and voice activation.
The latest Toyota Audio Multimedia features five times more processing power than the previous generation system.
The complete system has a standard 8-inch centrally located touchscreen or an available 14 inches with enhanced resolution for sharp, high-quality images. Also includes a touch functionality more responsive and familiar to consumers, including pinch and zoom functions used on phones and tablets.
