Tricks you think save fuel but actually do the opposite

The price of fuel has reached historical maximums in the world, it has never been as expensive as it is now to fill the tank of a car. An average places gasoline and diesel with an increase of more than 70 % over last year in the United States.

This has led Americans to implement various techniques that help them spend less fuel, use applications that tell them where it may be the cheapest, and in extreme cases not to use the car anymore while the situation normalizes.

However, despite the fact that there are tips that help fuel savings to be effective, there are a number of hoaxes that can be found on the internet that can result in the opposite.

Fuel efficiency is not just a matter of models.

Using fuel to the last drop is not beneficial at all. There are those who say that you have to get the most out of the fuel by spending it until it is in reserve, but the truth is that what this practice does is bring dirt to the car’s injection system extracting to the bottom of the tank the residues that have been left each time we have refueled. This practice causes the systems to fail, even consuming more fuel.

Another common lie is that if we let the car on a slope circulate in neutral or in neutral gear we will save fuel. It is false, when the engine is on, the expense is the same and we also put ourselves in danger by not having the transmission and the engine working together. In fact in an extreme situation the car can become undrivable.

There are also those who say that refueling in the morning is better because as the day goes by and the temperature rises, the fuel tends to evaporate. True, but the amount of difference is so minimal that it’s not worth changing plans for this reason.

AMLO asegura que el precio de la gasolina en la frontera con EE.UU. se mantendrá estable
Mexico keeps the price of gasoline stable at the border.

Slowly add fuel to the car. Some argue that pulling the trigger hard when refueling causes more fuel to evaporate. But it happens exactly the same as in the previous case: it is such a minimal amount that it does not influence the payment of the invoice at all.

Using additives helps a lot to clean the car system, but in no way increases fuel efficiency. Using them is positive but in modern cars it has less and less influence. The same thing happens with “fuel savers”, some products offered on the internet that ensure that consumption will decrease by 17 %.
