The Russian Deputy Minister, Andréi Rudenko, assured that between Russia and Ukraine there is currently “no type” of negotiation .
“Negotiations are not continuing. Ukraine has in fact abandoned the negotiating process“, said Rudenko, quoted by the Interfax agency.
The Vice Minister stressed that the talks, which began at the end of February, have been interrupted.
For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov criticized Washington and London for guiding Ukraine during previous rounds of negotiations with Russia.
Negotiations between the parties stalled a month and a half ago, after of the fighting in Mariúpol intensifying and the images of Bucha coming to light.
The last round of face-to-face talks between the delegates of both countries took place in Istanbul, last 29 March.
After this meeting, the parties timid advances in the negotiation were suggested, but the following weeks highlighted that the differences remain irreconcilable
, despite the fact that the contacts continued in videoconference format.
Thus, on May 9, the Russian chief negotiator, Valdímir Medinski, assured that the negotiations in remote format continue and “have not stopped”.
In April, Russia submitted its new negotiating proposals to Ukraine in writing. Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, noted that the documents delivered to kyiv contain “absolutely clear and developed formulations. The ball is in your court, we are waiting for an answer”.
