Mexican authorities recovered the body of a Peruvian migrant, who drowned in the Rio Grande, in addition to rescuing three other foreigners who were stranded in the flow.
According to information from the National Institute of Migration (INM), initially Agents from the Representation Office in Piedras Negras, in the northern state of Coahuila, received a call for help that three adult men (two from Colombia and one from El Salvador), who could no longer advance between the strong current of the river.
Rescue personnel arrived at the place known as the river walk, between international bridges I and II, and with a rescue maneuver in an airboat they helped the migrants out of the risk situation.
After providing medical assistance, the rescued were transferred to the INM facilities to continue with the process corresponding immigration administrative.
Hours later, during the preventive tour to help, guide and save the lives of migrants, they observed the body of a person floating in the Rio Grande, at the height of the point known as Rancho Dos Cruces.
With an airboat, the INM personnel arrived at the place to rescue the body of the person identified as an adult man and who was found to have a passport from the South American country, Peru.
After the discovery, the State Attorney General’s Office of Coahuila carried out the removal of the body and carried out the corresponding expert examinations for identification.
The region is experiencing a record migratory flow towards The United States, whose Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office detected more than 1.7 million undocumented immigrants on the border with Mexico in the fiscal year 2021, which ended on 30 of September.
