Mexican judoca suffers cardiorespiratory arrest in combat and dies shortly after

Mexican sports dressed in mourning, since the judoka David Gómez died after a fight in which he represented the U of G at the Universiade 2022 held in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua.

The tragic news was confirmed by the educational institution for which he was competing in a social media post.

“We regret to report the sensitive death of David Gómez Flores, a U de G student and university judoka, which occurred during the Universiade. We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends and coaches”, reads the message that accompanies the letter.

The statement details that the athlete suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest during his participation individual in the category of the 100 kilograms, for which he was urgently transferred to the Specialty Medical Center, where he was admitted to intensive care, but unfortunately he died shortly after.

According to information published on the official website of the Universiade, the athlete died of “sudden death” and despite the fact that David Gómez still had vital signs when he was transferred to the hospital, the doctors already knew the outcome, since it is something that cannot be reversed, even in the hospital.

“He began to feel dizzy, to feel bad. He sat. he told the referee to stop, he wanted to get up again, he couldn’t , and that’s when we came in and that’s when he fell unemployed. (…) There was no blow, there was no event that triggered that”, described Dr. Armando Tonatiuh Mondragón Rodríguez, specialist doctor of the U de G sports teams.

“The patient arrived at the hospital still with vital signs, maneuvers were continued at the hospital, intra-hospital protocols for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and he died minutes later. In these cases the outcome is the same. We know, as doctors, that this type of thing, even in an operating room, cannot be reversed ”, he concluded.
