The series that marked a before and after on Telemundo was “La Reina del Sur“, the narcoserie starring Kate del Castillo. Since then, the Hispanic network has focused on making productions of the same cut from which other hits such as “El Señor de los Cielos” and “Señora Acero” emerged.
However, the mother of all was Teresa Mendoza, the iconic character brought to life by Kate that was originally written by Arturo Pérez Reverte. Now in its third season, “La Reina del Sur” arrives with more action than ever in a new preview that Telemundo launched on the occasion of its Upfront presentation.
Telemundo’s statement reads as follows: Based on the novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, the globally acclaimed Super Series La Reina del Sur returns for its long-awaited third season with unparalleled magnitude, starring global superstar, Kate del Castillo.
Four years have passed since the US authorities convicted Teresa Mendoza of the murders of three DEA agents. Separated from her beloved daughter Sofía de ella, Teresa lives behind bars in a maximum security prison, stripped of all her freedoms. Through a sophisticated escape plan, Teresa’s old friends Oleg and Jonathan dare to break her out of jail to Mexico where she meets President Epifanio Vargas.
In a world fueled by secret deals and alliances, Teresa agrees to embark on her most dangerous mission yet, one that will take her across Latin America in the desperate hope of leaving her life as a fugitive behind and finally reuniting with Sofia.
