Mega Millions suspends prize payouts after 'human error' in Tuesday's drawing

An error in last Tuesday’s Mega Millions draw caused the lottery to decide to suspend the issuance of payments.

The New York State Lottery rated the incident as a ‘human error’ which caused a mix-up in the last draw number.

The incident occurred when the giveaway presenter, John Crow, incorrectly mentioned the number of the golden Mega Ball.

When the number appeared, Crow announced that it was the number “6”; however, the number that had actually appeared was “9” .

The jackpot for this Tuesday’s drawing was $86 million dollars, with a chance to win $49.1 million in cash, according to Mega Millions.

After the mistake, the New York State Lottery detailed that the correct series for Tuesday’s drawing 05 May was: 10-11-12-45-70, with the Mega Ball 9.

The agency, dependent on the New York State Gaming Commission, offered an apology

for the error.

“The 9-ball entered the chamber and it is the official result. The results of the draw were audited by Preston CPA (…) we apologize for the confusion”, it was detailed in a statement.

The agency asked all people who bought lottery tickets for Tuesday’s draw of May that they keep them for any clarification, while the incident is clarified.

The Mega Millions lottery is played at 45 states of the country, plus the District of Columbia, according to a report published by ABC.

Lottery jackpots generate this type of story as one of the most recent of a couple of winners in Minnesota.

According to the Mega Millions website, the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302.5 million.

Along with Powerball, Mega Millions offers the largest jackpots in the United States.

Some of the biggest prizes that have been awarded in these lotteries reach $1,586 million dollars, which was delivered in a raffle of Powerball, the 10 January 2016, in California, Florida and Tennessee.

In the case of the Mega Millions lottery, the largest prize awarded was $1,537 million dollars, delivered on 23 October 2018, on a single winning ticket in South Carolina.
