The US electric car giant Tesla built what it called its first Gigafactory outside the American continent three years ago. He did it in the new Lingang space, with a manufacturing capacity designed for 500,000 products.

During this last week the company has been forced to reduce manufacturing due to the shortage of elements caused in part by the blockade by Covid from one of its suppliers.

A case of Covid forced the authorities to close the Aptiv manufacturing plant in the Jiading district of Shanghai. This plant manufactures a wiring harness used in the electrical crossover of the Tesla battery, specifically the Model Y.

This information was released by JL Warren Capital’s chief executive officer and director of research, Junheng Li .

Tesla blows a whistle that runs out in two hours.

In recent days the Chinese government has been very clear that the Covid regulations will be above economic interests in order to avoid a rebound in numbers regarding the pandemic.

In fact, it is estimated that this type of closure will continue in the coming days and that it will even affect many other companies.

This statement establishes the mandate that all local authorities prioritize Covid zero over regional economies. So automakers are planning day by day, week by week

Tesla shares fall on the sale of shares decided on Twitter.

According to figures from the Passenger Car Association of China published this week, Tesla bought 1,512 electric cars manufactured in that country in the month of April, a drop of more than 100 % with regard to March.

Tesla produced an estimate of 10,523 electric cars at its plant in Shanghai in April, but did not export any to Europe or to points in Asia beyond mainland China.

Only in the first four months of 2022, Tesla was able to buy 100,686 of its electric cars made in China, according to CPCA estimates, at least 73,757 exported to another country.

I have had some conversations with the Chinese government in the last few days, and it is clear that the lockdowns are being lifted rapidly, so I would not expect this to be a major issue in the upcoming weeks
