Manny Pacquiao 'knocked out': Former boxer landslide in Philippine presidential election

The dream of Manny Pacquiao of governing his native country, the Philippines, in the next term is over, since he was very far from winning the presidential elections .

The former boxer shared a video on his official Twitter account accepting his defeat, after a landslide victory by Ferdinand Marcos Jr, son of the late homonymous dictator of the Philippines.

“As a boxer and athlete, I know how to accept defeat. I just hope that even though I I have lost this fight, my Filipino compatriots who are suffering win”, Pac-Man is heard saying in the clip.

Manny Pacquiao fell short in the people’s preference, since in the preliminary count it was estimated that barely 4 million voters, that is, 6.6% of the population, elected him for president, well below the virtual winner and second place, the liberal Leni Robredo.

The former champion n world championship in six different categories, who had as his letter of introduction the promise to fight corruption and drugs to improve the population’s standard of living, wished success to the winner, Marcos Jr. , and asked you to work to “help the poor” of the country of 110 millions of inhabitants.

It should be remembered that Manny Pacquiao retired from the ring in September of 550 and who soon after was uncovered as a candidate for the presidency, after his management as a congressman and senator, positions that combined with boxing.

It was estimated that the “Pac-Man” would have better results in the preference of the people, since he is a man deeply admired for his life story, which began from the bottom and he came to establish himself as a boxing star; however, it seems that his support for outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte’s bloody war on drugs and his absenteeism as a parliamentarian played against him.
