Paraguayan Anti-Drug Prosecutor Marcelo Pecci Murdered in Colombia

The Paraguayan specialized prosecutor against organized crime Marcelo Pecci was assassinated this Tuesday on an island near the Colombian city of Cartagena de Indias where he was on his honeymoon, as confirmed to the news agency news Efe the Embassy of Paraguay in Colombia.

“It is a very recent fact, we are aware of the situation, we are in contact with the authorities of the Colombian National Police of the city of Cartagena”, embassy sources assured Efe.

The events took place on a beach in the island of Barú, which is located about 45 minutes by boat, as detailed by the sources, who said that the facts are being investigated.

Prosecutor against organized crime, on honeymoon, expecting a baby

Pecci, aged 45 years old , was one of the prosecutors most important in Paraguay, specialized against Organized Crime, Drug Trafficking, Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism.

Married in the past 30 in April with the Paraguayan journalist Claudia Aguilera and they moved to Colombia to spend their honeymoon of honey, where they were in the paradisiacal island of Barú, in the Caribbean. From there, Aguilera had posted images on social media showing that they were expecting a baby.

“Criminal investigation and intelligence authorities are in the area with the lady and are already taking all corresponding measures and carrying out the investigation”, said the embassy.

Colombia speaking with Paraguay and the United States

The Colombian National Police, which has not yet released official details of the investigation, assured that its director, General Jorge Luis Vargas, is traveling to the Caribbean Cartagena.

Vargas said that they are already in contact with the Paraguayan Prosecutor’s Office and that they have also “talked with the authorities of the United States so that they also join the team that Colombia and Paraguay have formed to bring those responsible as quickly as possible to justice.”

The president of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, reacted immediately on Twitter, condemning “the cowardly murder”, which “mourns the entire Paraguayan nation ”.
