“Canelo is still a legend and I will give him a rematch, but it is not my goal”: Dmitry Bivol spoke about a second fight with Saúl Álvarez

With great humility, Dmitry Bivol spoke of the upcoming rematch against Canelo Álvarez , after last weekend he defeated him in Las Vegas, giving him the second loss of his career and the first in nine years.

In an interview with DAZN, the Russian boxer said that is willing to give the Mexican a rematch , although is not his priority or his target for the time being. But in case Saúl Álvarez formalizes the request, of course he would accept, somewhat corresponding to the gesture that he first gave him the opportunity to confront him.

“I wanted for this fight to draw more attention, to show my skills to many fans, to introduce myself to boxing fans. Now I have it, and it is not my goal to have a rematch with Canelo. I have a goal to have more belts in the light heavyweight division . It is not the first thing I want to do, I have an indisputable objective. Yes, (Canelo has options) in the contract, I have to give him a rematch (if he wants), but it is not my goal. But I will give him the rematch, of course , if he wants. He gave me a chance and , of course, I will give it a try . If he doesn’t take it, no problem, I go my own way”, Dmitry Bivol mentioned with a relaxed attitude.

When asked about what would he ask in return, without hesitation he said that he would look for an economic benefit and more recognition.

“More money I want to be the main (your name) on the posters . Something like that, you know? About the rumors that Saúl Álvarez could not defeat Bivol even in a second chance, the Russian remained calm and expressed that he would not be trusted, since he still considers him a very difficult rival.

“I’m not sure it will be easier. it will be different. It’s still difficult. Maybe he will be more motivated”, he added.

Finally, talking about last Saturday’s fight and contradicting those who think that the C anelo only showed shortcomings and defects, Bivol praised the courage and recognized the greatness of the Aztec boxer.

“He moved up (in weight) and still has four belts at super middleweight. He is champion in four weight classes He is a great fighter, he is still a legend a . Everyone has haters, and this is Canelo’s haters moment. They are hating now. But is still one of the best and I respect him and his team ”, he concluded.
