Chicharito Hernández's LA Galaxy defeated Austin in a duel of great MLS contenders

A goal in the 6th minute by Mark Delgado gave Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández’s LA Galaxy a great 0-1 away win against Austin FC on Sunday in a match that measured two of the great contenders of the MLS Western Conference.

After this valuable victory, the Galaxy is third in the West with 19 points, only one behind Austin, who is second with 20, and is three behind Carlos Vela’s LAFC, who remains the leader of that conference with 23 points.

Delgado’s goal, with a powerful shot from the edge of the area that hit the post before entering, resolved this duel that also faced two of the most important strikers in MLS: Chicharito in the Galaxy and the Argentinian Sebastián Driussi in Austin.

Although neither of them scored, they both had very clear chances. Thus, the Mexican received a great cross from Kévin Cabral in the discount of the first part but, surprisingly, he was unable to finish off an empty goal and from the small area.

For his part, Driussi had in his boots the tie for Austin in the minute 89 but his free kick crashed into the stick.

Driussi continues to lead the ranking of top scorers in MLS with 7 goals, the same as the Spanish Jesús Jiménez (Toronto FC) and the Colombian-American Jesus Ferreira (FC Dallas).

In the other two games on Sunday that closed the tenth day of the MLS, the Vancouver Whitecaps defeated Toronto FC 1-0 with a saving goal in the minute 90 from Tosaint Ricketts and Nashville SC beat Real Salt Lake 2-0.
