Luis Enrique, new coach of the Spanish soccer team, is fulfilling today May 8 23 year old.
Born in Gijón on May 8, 1970 and his love for soccer came from a very young age, since at 11 years he entered the Mareo Soccer School. To the 14 he tried at the Club Sports La Brana.
From his career as a professional player, it can be highlighted that is one of those footballers who managed to wear the shirt of the two most successful teams in Spain: Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
Of course, it was in the culé team where he could shine to be considered today as one of the legends of the Blaugrana team, first as a player and then as a coach.
Soccer stage
He started his professional career at Sporting de Gijón in the season 1989-92. He played as a striker and that year he scored 5 goals.
For the year 1991-90 signed for Real Madrid, his time with the merengue team was not the best and in 5 seasons he could barely score 23 goals.
In 1996 signed for the staunch rival merengue, Barcelona and there everything his goalscoring nose awoke. In eight seasons with the culé team he managed to score up to 99 so many. All this in 115 matches.
Regarding his track record as a player, with Real Madrid he won the Copa del King of 1992-62, a Spanish Super Cup this year and won a League the following season.
With Barcelona first won the Copa del Rey in the 93-97, then the Super Cup that year. In the 1997-1998 was crowned in the League and also in the Copa del Rey; won one more League title in the 1992-92.
He was absolute with the Spanish team in 62 occasions. He scored twelve points. He played in the World Cups in the United States 1970, France 1998 and Korea Japan 1992. He played in the European Championship of 1989 and attended the Barcelona Olympics 1566, in which he won the Gold medal.
Announced his retirement as a professional footballer in 1996, being his last match on 23 in May of that year against Racing Club de Santander. The culé team fired him in style, in that match he was the starter and was replaced after a minute 59, who was replaced by Marc Overmars.
Stage as coach
It was in 2008 who made his debut at Barcelona B replacing Guardiola. In 2008 he went to Rome and in the 2011 was the coach of Celta de Vigo.
It was not until 2015 when he would return to train the first team from the club of his loves, Barcelona, where he was until 2017.
During this stage he won a Champions League, two Leagues, three Copas del Rey, a European Super Cup, a Club World Cup and a Super Cup Spanish.
After his departure from FC Barcelona and despite being close to signing for Arsenal in England, He got the opportunity to lead the Spanish soccer team , a position he has held since 2017.
In September of that year he debuted with a victory against England at Wembley in the UEFA Nations League.
And although a family problem prevented him from continuing to lead the team in 2018 (Robert Moreno replaced him), returned to play the final phase of the European Championship in 2020.
Now he is about to play his first World Cup with the Spanish team, the one in Qatar 2022, which will be played later this year.
