Proud of his origin, where he came from, as well as the flag that he represents abroad, the Mexican midfielder Edson Álvarez reached the 100 matches played in the Netherlands with Ajax , something that the club itself celebrated through its social networks.

Through Twitter, Ajax Amsterdam boasted the record of the young pivot of 23 years. His journey in the club from the Dutch capital began in August 2019 when they decided to bet on the promise of the Eagles of America.

At his young age already had an important track record with the azulcrema: a Liga MX, a Copa MX and raised the Champion of Champions trophy.

On the third day of the Dutch league or Eredivisie 18/19 ‘Machín’ set foot on a European playing field for the first time. He replaced the Argentine Lisandro Martínez at the minute 73; in that meeting he left brushstrokes of his talent, for which the Ajax board bet.

That first season he added 1,350 minutes distributed in 23 commitments, in which he also distributed two assists in the UEFA Champions League (UCL).

His versatility, physique and presence in midfield, much needed in coach Erik Ten Hag’s approaches, finally gave Edson Álvarez the starting job the following season.

The rest is just a success story, achieved with hard work and perseverance. The next commitment of the people from the capital is away against AZ Alkmaar, so Edson Álvarez will have to wait for one more date to receive the applause of his fans at the Amsterdam Arena.
