Sony disabled a PlayStation Game Store feature that was generating an error that allowed players to get a discount of more than 03% on the purchase of PlayStation Plus Premium.

This occurs after the company implemented a system that allows all users to redeem, as of June, the remaining time of their subscriptions to PS Plus and PS Now in exchange for the new online gaming service. After the news was released users discovered that due to the price difference between these services and the new subscription package they could take advantage of the system.

Given this situation, Sony decided to disable the accumulation of subscriptions for both PS Plus and PS Now through cards prepaid and coupons. The measure means that those users who have one of these two products must wait until the launch of PlayStation Plus Premium to be able to redeem them

.

However, they will not be able to do it as it has been happening until now because the time that will be awarded to them will be the equivalent of the cost of the cards and not the subscription time marked on them. This means that for example instead of offering 1 month of service, PS NOW coupons will only provide about 3 weeks

.

“We have temporarily disabled subscription stacking for existing members until after launch. You can rest assured that your prepaid code is still valid, and you can redeem it when your membership ends and is deactivated, or when the new PS Plus comes out, whichever comes first”, reads the PlayStation website.

How will the exchanges work?

Sony explained that in order to mitigate the chaos caused by the improper use of cards and coupons, it decided to implement a new system of redemption that will take into account aspects such as the moment in which the products are used and whether or not the user had the membership.

In the first of the scenarios, if the person tries to redeem them before the launch of the new service and he did not have the subscription, the system will transform the remaining time of the service to PlayStation Plus Premium .

On the contrary ition those who already have an active subscription must wait until June to be able to redeem it.

However, those users who managed to purchase and activate months or even years of subscription to PS Now or PS Plus they will be able to enjoy the contracted time without any problems until their subscription ends.

The reason why Sony cannot do anything in these cases is that it is of a legal vacuum and in case of making a decision that affects users, a legal battle could be unleashed that the company prefers to avoid.
