Canelo sees Bivol as a complex rival: “I look for difficult challenges because it is what keeps me alive”

The Mexican Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, considered the best pound-for-pound boxer at the moment, assured this Tuesday that He agreed to move up from super middleweight to light heavyweight to face Russian Dmitry Bivol because he is looking for tough challenges to keep him alive.

“I look for difficult challenges because it is what keeps me alive, I like adrenaline, being competitive. Like Bivol I am also strong, I have many skills and I am ready”

, he explained on his official arrival in Las Vegas where next Saturday, May 7, he will try to snatch the World Boxing Association (WBA) light heavyweight title from Bivol at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Before taking on Bivol, the 31 year old fighter swept the super middleweight division ( 168 pounds) in which he conquered the belts of the World Boxing Organization, the International Federation, the World Council and the WBA.

After becoming the first fighter to unify the super middleweight titles, ‘ Álvarez’ decided to move up one category, the light heavyweight (100 pounds), in which in 2019 was the WBA champion by dethroning Russian Sergey Kovalev.

“ It is a motivation to continue making history, I love boxing and that is which makes me want to continue making history. On May 7 I will give my best, I will give everything up in the ring, it will be a triumph for the history of Mexico”, added the fighter who holds a record of 57 wins, 39 by knockout, one loss and two draws.

Bivol, undefeated in 19 fights, 11 of them achieved by the fast track, I trust that you have the skills to defeat Álvarez.

“I trust my abilities and my victories, that’s why I’m here. It feels good to see all these people, I’m excited for Saturday night I have and I am delighted to be here”, he affirmed.

The Russian of 31 years boxed for the last time in December when he retained his WBA title against his compatriot Umar Salamov, whom he defeated by unanimous decision.

“ I expect a great fight and as I said before I believe in my victories and I will try to do my best to keep my belt and make people be happy to see this fight”, Bivol sentenced.
