The United States Coast Guard rescued the body of a teenager from 17 years that had disappeared while fishing last Saturday in the waters near the Luis Pass Bridge , in Texas .
Officers reported receiving a report from the Galveston Police Department around 8: 26 on the night of the young man who was last seen fishing north of Freeport.
The teenager’s body was found at 5: 25 Sunday afternoon by a Texas EquuSearch vessel, according to the Coast Guard, after it was seen by the crew from a helicopter that saw the body in a cove some 300 meters from where the young man was fishing.
“San Luis Pass is an incredibly dangerous area to swim and fish in the water due to strong tidal currents and rapidly changing water depth, especially from night,” said Coast Guard Capt. Keith.
“It’s heartbreaking that a fishing trip with friends and family ended this way. We offer the family of this young man our deepest condolences for his unimaginable loss”.
A fisherman told ABC15 that he was fishing in the area and said that conditions on Saturday night were too dangerous.
“It was very dangerous. I was going to kayak out some bait, but decided it was potentially not very safe to be in the water. So, I put on my boots and felt the current. It was pulling me in one direction,” said Bobby Hall.
The young man’s body He was transferred to a local fire station, where the forensic doctor will pick him up to perform the respective autopsy.
San Luis Pass is a popular fishing and beach spot, but is also known for dangerous rip currents due to the turbulent tidal waters coming from the Gulf of Mexico and the bay.
