The Executive reported this Monday (2.05.2022) about these wiretaps in a joint press conference between the cabinet spokeswoman, Isabel Rodríguez, and the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños.

According to two technical reports from the National Cryptologic Center, the mobile phones of the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, and his Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, were tapped by the Pegasus program.

The case is known in the midst of a political storm in Spain due to the espionage to which Catalan and Basque pro-independence leaders were allegedly subjected by of the State, also with Pegasus.

“This is not the time to guess”

In a press conference in the Palacio de la Moncloa, in which he gave an account of these two intrusions in the mobile telephones of Sánchez and Robles in May and June 2021, Coinciding with the weeks prior to the procés leaders’ release from prison, Bolaños insisted, when asked by journalists, that “they do not it is time to make conjectures”.

In his opinion, if these wiretaps have to do with the espionage of well-known Catalan politicians in recent weeks , may be known at the end of the investigation that is still underway, and whose results will be added to the complaint already filed at the National High Court this Monday.

“Total commitment to clarifying the truth”

“The Government’s commitment to clarification of the truth is total, and from there we will take the corresponding measures”, added the Minister of the Presidency, who has guaranteed that this espionage is alien to the structure of the State and has not had judicial authorization, and therefore both is “external and illicit”.

Have you remembered that the softw are Pegasus has been used in at least 10 countries and given its dangerousness, security measures will be reinforced, not only in the Government and the General State Administration, but these measures will be made available to the autonomous communities, municipalities and other institutions.

“The Government is going to be inflexible with any violation of fundamental rights,” Bolaños stressed.
