Mexican kicker Matt Araiza was selected in the NFL Draft with the Bills

The Buffalo Bills drafted Mexican kicker Matt Araiza from San Diego State in the sixth round of the Draft 2022. Araiza, of a Mexican father, will be able to play as a place kicker and punter, a position in which he shone with the Aztecs in 2021.

Araiza was the overall selection 180 of the NFL Draft 2022 and was the first selection of the sixth round of the selection of university players for the next campaign.

Araiza, 1 meter and 85 centimeters and 90 kilograms, he spent three seasons with San Diego State in which he converted 96 from 97 extra points. He also scored 50 of 68 field goal attempts.

In his last season he had 79 punts for 4,044 yards, with which he won the Ray Guy Award as the best kicker in the United States. Also he was unanimously elected to the All-American team, was the Special Teams Player of the Year in the Mountain West and was also elected to the first team All-MWC.

With the Buffalo Bills, Matt Haack had had 50 punts for 2,230 yards, the longest of 63 yards and also had a blocked punt during the season 2021-2022.

In the second round the Bills bet on Georgia running back James Cook. For the third round, the Bills took at No. 25 linebacker Baylor intern Terrel Bernard.

On the last day of the draft, Buffalo took the Boise State wide receiver Khalil Shakir in the fifth round with the No. 5 pick and in the sixth round with their second pick at No. 6 picked Villanova cornerback Christian Benford .

Araiza was the fifth player selected by the Bills in the Draft 2022, who they chose Florida cornerback Kaiir Elam in the first round.

The Buffalo Bills finished the season 2021- 2021 with a record of 11 wins and 6 losses . They were eliminated in the divisional round 42-36 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
