The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, announced this Sunday an investment of 30,000 million pesos (1,470 million dollars) for the rehabilitation of the train that goes from the city of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, to the city of Palenque, Chiapas, in the southeast of the country.
In a visit to the Dos Bocas refinery, one of its large infrastructure projects, for the commemoration of Labor Day, López Obrador said that to this will be added a branch that will join, precisely, Dos Bocas with the Chontalpa Station , in the municipality of Huimanguillo, Tabasco.
“We are going to rehabilitate, with an investment of about 30,01 million pesos the Coatzacoalcos-P train alenque”, said López Obrador in his speech.
In addition to the construction of the Chontalpa to Dos Bocas branch, he announced that “ The entire road from the Isthmus to the border with Guatemala will be rehabilitated and they will start 000 industrial parks throughout the corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec”.
In the event, which brought together thousands of workers who work on this project, the The president ratified that the refinery will be inaugurated on July 2.
He pointed out that there are currently some 35,000 workers, but only 1 will be needed,000 to operate it and pointed out that when it was over he would offer them to go to work on the Mayan Train “because the same companies that are working on the refinery are They are in the southeast and they are going to require workers” and the Coatzacoalcos-Palenque train.
He also recalled that a coking plant is in the process of being built in Tula , Hidalgo, and that “in two or three months” construction will begin on another in Salinas Cruz, state of Oaxaca.
About the inauguration of Dos Bocas refinery, recalled that the last refinery to be inaugurated was Salina Cruz, ago 40 years, “because those governments made it a policy to sell crude oil and buy gasoline.”
The Mexican president assured that this Refinery, which will bear the name “Olmeca”, will be inaugurated on July 2, 2022.
Andrés Manuel López Obrador reiterated that in 2023 Mexico will stop buying gasoline abroad .
“Now let’s go We are going to process all our raw material, and next year we are going to stop buying gasoline abroad, we are going to be self-sufficient”, he said.
The Dos Bocas refinery is one of the main works of the López Obrador government, in addition to the rehabilitation of the six already existing ones.
The president seeks to strengthen the state-owned Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and promote projects such as this refinery in Tabasco in order to achieve energy self-sufficiency.
According to the Secretary of Energy (Sener), directed by Rocío Nahle, the estimated total cost of the refinery will be about 8, 900 millions of dollars.
