A Hispanic female, of the two suspects charged with allegedly kidnapping a 3-month-old baby from his grandmother’s house in Northern California, befriended the woman and became “obsessed” with the child, according to local reports .

The grandmother, Victoria Mejía, told Univision San Francisco who met Yesenia Guadalupe Ramírez, aged 25, in the church.

Ramírez became friends with her and would always show up when his grandson, Brandon Cuellar, was around, Fox affiliate KTVU-TV reported.

I always wanted to be near the boy, said Cuellar’s mother, Jessica Ayala. She said that she was working cleaning houses when she received a call from her sister-in-law informing her of the kidnapping

“I didn’t know how to react”, she told Univision. “I fell to the ground and it was a moment that I cannot explain.”

The child was kidnapped on April 25 from Mejía’s apartment in San José, while unloading the purchase, police said. He was found on Tuesday after an intense police search.

Ramírez, from 43 years old, allegedly convinced Mejía to go with her to Walmart so they could buy baby items before the alleged kidnapping, according to the Univision report.

She was arrested after she kept changing her story during a police interview, authorities said.

An informant saw a truck supposedly registered in the name of Ramírez and the baby Brandon was found in the house of José Román Portillo, who is also charged in the case.

His connection to the case has not been disclosed.

He was allegedly seen on a surveillance camera carrying a baby car seat and walking to a vehicle moments after the baby was taken away.

A third person who was arrested, Bald omeo Sandoval, aged 25, who was released from police custody Thursday and will not face charges, the Police Department said from San jose.

Relatives told Univision that he is married to Ramírez. She allegedly planned the kidnapping, police said.
