HOUSTON – A Houston-area teacher has resigned her position after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student from Shadow Creek High School, which belongs to the Alvin Independent School District.
The town of Alvin is located at 20 miles northwest of downtown Houston.
The Alvin School District Police Department announced Thursday that Joann Karel was arrested Wednesday by officers and booked into the Alvin County Jail Brazoria.
Karel has been charged with inappropriate relationship between educator and student, his bail was set at $20,000 Dollars.
This Thursday the district said in a statement that they are cooperating with the authorities in the investigation that has been launched into the case, and confirmed that Karel had resigned from her position.
District officials also said the student’s parents have been notified.
