It is not a secret that Mexico struggled to score goals in the Qualifiers for Qatar 2022. The ability of El Tri’s forwards was left in doubt for many. Miguel Herrera, technical director of Tigres and former Mexican coach, attributes this problem to the fact that we don’t have great scorers… except for Javier “Chicharito” Hernández.

The “Piojo” was interviewed by Carlos Hermosillo for Telemundo Deportes, and did not hesitate to compare the strikers of yesteryear in Mexico with those of today .

“In Mexico those great Mexican strikers left us: you (Hermosillo), Peláez, Borguetti, Luis García, Luis Hernández, Luis Miguel Salvador. They were forwards of another level, scorers, of great qualities; they left us, they began to die out “, said Herrera, who also pointed out that the work of train a new generation of similar scorers.

Then he sent his poisoned dart: “ Today we don’t have, taking out Chicharito, we don’t have a guy who keeps fighting in the scorers

“.

Subsequently, Miguel Herrera explained his point of view. For him, Raúl Jiménez is not a born goalscorer, nor is he at his best due to the ravages left by the serious injury he suffered. It was not the only case he referred to. He also added that Henry Martin has not finished taking the step to scorer that is expected.

El Piojo focused on highlighting that the basic forces must work to produce great scorers, which are scarce not only in Mexico, but around the world.
