JetBlue, the US low-cost airline, announced the cutback and suspension of some of its routes for the summer. The company announces this news, in the midst of a shortage of its personnel, greater demand for travel and adjustments to reduce its costs.

The company, belonging to JetBlue Airways Corporation, said that the changes are part of the adjustments to its flight schedule to adapt to the following season of operations. For them, this has represented a decrease in passenger capacity and the elimination or suspension of routes.

“These adjustments help reduce flights that do not make much sense in the current environment of significantly higher fuel prices,” said a spokesman of the airline told Fox Business.

The Simple Flying site reported that JetBlue’s modifications have been reflected in the suspension of seven routes and the modification of two more. John F. Kennedy airport, in New York, and Newark, in New Jersey, are the ones that registered the most changes; the latter, due to the construction of its new Terminal “A”.

The airline seeks to grow significantly in this and the main New York airports, to go from 200 daily flights in 2019 to almost 300 Daily flights. However, despite hiring more than 3,000 crew members at 2022, the company said earlier in the month that it continued to have staffing issues .

JetBlue said that the cuts in its capacity take into account the impact of fuel prices. The reduced schedule gives the airline time to provide additional opportunities to maintain the aircraft.

The news comes out a month after the airline said it would pause 54 routes in the summer, including Hartford to Las Vegas, and announced the change of the Austin-Cancun, Mexico and Nashville-Cancun routes.

“When fuel prices are high, some routes are not profitable or worth flying,” said Andrew Didora, Bank of America airline analyst.
