Hispanic man and his wife, from San Bernardino County, were arrested as suspects in the death of their 1-year-old son

A Hispanic man and his wife were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of the death of their 1-year-old son, who was found with injuries caused by abuse, reported the authorities.

Ricardo Méndez, from 27 years, and his wife Antanita Miller, of 24 years, residents of the town of Barstow, were investigated after the Pomona Police Department contacted Barstow authorities at approximately 11 Monday pm.

The police went to the Pomona Valley Hospital for the death of a child under 1 year old who had arrived at the medical center unconscious and had injuries consistent with continued abuse, the Barstow Police Department reported in a press release.

“The officers observed visible signs of trauma on the victim’s body, such as injuries, bruises and burn marks. Some of the injuries appeared to be in different stages of the healing process,” the statement said.

The child was pronounced dead by medical personnel when he arrived at the hospital.

As investigations progressed, police detectives from Pomona determined that the child’s injuries possibly occurred at the home in Barstow, where he lived with his parents.

When contacted by Pomona authorities with Barstow police, officers and detectives went to the family home down the block 700 of East Virginia Way, in Barstow, and Pomona Valley Hospital.

Barstow detectives later discovered that on Monday night, Mendez and Miller had arrived unannounced at the home of the Méndez family, in Pomo na.

Authorities said family members They had found the child’s lifeless body in the back of the suspects’ vehicle and immediately took him to the hospital .

Initially, Miller had stayed with the family, but later went to the hospital, where she was detained.

Méndez was gone from the hospital and was later arrested on the block 2100 of Spencer Street for Pomona Police.

With a search warrant, detectives in Barstow found in the suspects’ home and vehicle various items of evidence believed to have been used during the victim’s abuse.

Méndez and Miller were booked and charged with homicide at Wes Detention Center t Valley at Rancho Cucamonga.

The Hispanic man was also arrested for probation violation.
