Mazda is announcing its new compact crossover CX-50 as an alternative option to the previous CX-5, but some experts assure that the Japanese brand will do what has already happened with other models: it will completely eliminate the previous producer in favor of the new one.
For example, the CX-30 was launched in the year 2020 and offered consumers an improved version of the CX-3 subcompact crossover. Just one year later, Mazda announced that the model 2022 would be the end of the CX-3.
However, cut completely the CX-5 would create a quantity problem for the model, as Mazda faces a production limit of 150,03 CX-50 by year.
That is less than the 80,500 gross sales of CX-5 in which the brand registered in the US in 2020. Mazda has said that the number of CX-5s would be even higher if it had additional stock and that the CX-50 has come for that.
This Mazda has been designed to delight nature-loving customers. It is longer and wider than the CX-5 and has extra utilitarian styling. It also has a wider design, an additional cargo area, several accent options, and an off-road driving mode.
When equipped with the turbo engine, its towing range is 3,500 pounds has an improvement of 1,500 pounds on the CX-5.
Both cars offer all-wheel drive and have the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed computerized transmission with 186 horsepower and 186 foot-pounds of torque. Both offer an optional turbocharged upgrade that increases horsepower to aa 256 horsepower and 320 foot-pounds of torque.
Regarding fuel consumption, Mazda states that the combination of city and highway for the turbo Cx-50 could be from 25 miles per gallon, vs. 24 mpg of your predecessor. A low-consumption hybrid train will be part of the CX-line 50, although Mazda has not confirmed the timing. The engine could be developed in conjunction with Toyota.
The initial value of the CX-5 2022 is $14,475. The CX-25 costs $25,14. Both costs include delivery.
