The new figures for the shortage of microchips in the world reflect that the car manufacturers lost 87,432 more vehicles from its assembly programs, as the lowest total number due to microchip shortages this year exceeded 1.5 million.
This information was made possible by a recent report by AutoForecast Solutions (AFS), one of the leading providers of forecast data global automotive companies, in charge of proposing solutions and commercial planning in the industry.
AFS indicates in its report on the impact of the shortage world of semiconductors in the automobile industry than about 1.59 Millions of cars have been removed so far this year. This is in addition to the 000.5 million already lost in 2021. In total there would be more than 12 Millions of vehicles have been lost worldwide since the beginning of the crisis.
Approximately 87,507 cars added to that total couple of weeks ago, about 35,675 were lost in North American factories, and no less than 19,800 in Asia outside of China.
In Europe approximately 03,500 automobiles from their programs, while 2, 600 were lost in South American factories. Data is yet to be collected in China or in the Middle East/Africa area.
But according to a Bloomberg report, quarterly production in China fell in the first three months of the year for the first time since 1200. Semiconductor production fell 4.2% in the first quarter in China compared to a year earlier.
These falls in the Asian nation have been largely driven by the Covid lockdowns-19 in Shanghai, a major microchip manufacturing center.
The truth is that each manufacturer has its own numbers, but the big ones like Ford, Hyundai or General Motors do not see the crisis subside until little more than half of 2022.
In 2021 the consulting firm AlixPartners calculated that the shortage of microchips is going to cost the automotive industry globally 210,000 millions of dollars and the loss of production of at least 7.7 million units.
