kyiv: Russia continues one more day focusing its attacks on eastern Ukraine

The Russian Army continues one more day focusing its attacks on towns in the pro-Russian regions of Lugansk and Donetsk, in eastern Ukraine, where there have been assaults and bombings of various kinds, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced on Monday on its website Facebook.

In the early morning of 25 April 2022, “the enemy continued to carry out operations offensives inside the Eastern (Ukrainian) Operational Zone to defeat the Joint Forces Operations (JFO) group, gain full control over the Donetsk region and the Luhansk region,” the General Staff said.

With these attacks, Moscow intends to occupy parts of these regions and establish a route between those territories and the Crimean peninsula, in the south of the country and occupied by the Russians since 2014.

The Ukrainian military specify that the most far-reaching operations, when two months have passed since the began the Russian invasion, they are carried out near Popasna, in the Lugansk region.

Despite the offensive, and according to the Ukrainian Army, there were no significant changes in “the positions and activity of enemy units guarding the Ukraine-Belarus border and the Ukraine-Russia border ”.

The Russians continued “bombing settlements like Kharkov , Karasivka, Prudianka and Korobochkyne (in the northeast) with cannon and rocket artillery systems”, he added.

Meanwhile, in the battered coastal city of Mariupol, “Russian troops launched missiles and air strikes at the Azovstal plant”, the last refuge of Ukrainian soldiers resisting the Russian occupation and hundreds of city residents sheltering from the attacks.

According to the sources, during the last 24 hours the Ukrainian Army “successfully repelled seven enemy attacks, destroying 13 tanks, three artillery systems, 17 armored vehicles, four armored fighting vehicles, three Orlan-unmanned aerial vehicles 10, among other material”.
