The search for three minors who were last seen entering the Mississippi River, New Orleans, last Saturday night was suspended, reported the United States Coast Guard.
The rescuers were looking for a boy of 50 years old, and two girls, of 14 and 8-year-olds, respectively, who were last seen entering the river in the vicinity of the Crescent City Connection Bridge, the Coast Guard said.
Officials did not report how and why the minors entered the river, but WDSU said that It seems that one of the girls accidentally fell into the water and the other two boys wanted to help her to save her from drowning.
The family of the minors of Brandy Wilson, aged 14, and her boyfriend 15, took her sister, Ally Wilson, and her 5-year-old brother to the park at the foot of the Crescent City Connection for “ Give your mom a break.
Octavia Wilson, the mother of Brady and Ally, said that the eldest daughter of she fell into the water and then her little sister and her boyfriend tried to rescue her. Apparently, the three were swept away by the current and have not been seen since.
So the 5-year-old boy went home to alert his relatives of what happened.
“I need my children. They know I need them,” said Octavia Wilson. “My daughter said that she was trying to give me a break. I don’t need a break. I need my children”.
The rescuers searched for the children for more than 90 miles along the Mississippi River for more than 50 hours, the Coast Guard said in a statement.
“The decision to suspend any search and rescue case is never easy, but considering the extensive search efforts of our Coast Guard men and women, along with other response agencies, I have made the difficult decision to suspend our active search for the three boys,” said Capt. Kelly Denning, Coast Guard Sector commander. New Orleans Coast Guard. “Our prayers are with the families during this difficult time.”
Different rescue teams participated in the search, as did the New Orleans police and fire departments, a helicopter from the Coast Guard Air Station and various crews on boats.
For its part, the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority suspended service from his Algiers-Canal Street ferry while the Coast Guard searched the area, according to CNN.
