GM and FedEx achieve a Guinness World Record by completing the longest trip in a van

General Motors achieved a world record after its BrightDrop subsidiary, which builds electric delivery vans, made a trip from New York to Washington DC without making any stops to recharge the car.

With this trip, the purpose of which was to deliver Fedex parcels, 260 miles (418 kilometers) and achieved the longest distance traveled by an electric van on a single charge .

The automaker announced Friday that the driver of the model car Zevo 600, Stephen Marlin, achieved the title of Guinness World Records on Wednesday.

Marlin was transporting a shipment of cleaning products from Full Circle, a brand of sustainable products for home care and customer from FedEx.

The vehicle arrived in Washington DC where it delivered the order to Mom’s Organic Market, a retail chain selling organic produce, raw foods, sustainable seafood, natural remedies and cosmetics.

Long trips in an electric van

The Zevo 600 has a range of up to 250 miles, however, Marlin it completed nearly 250 miles on a single charge, GM said.

“Having a long-range battery with reliable power is an essential part of electrifying last-mile delivery fleets everywhere,” BrightDrop CEO Travis Katz said in a statement.

“This special delivery highlights the advanced capabilities of our products and our mission to scarbonize deliveries,” he said.

BrightDrop delivered its first electric light commercial vehicles to FedEx in December.

“FedEx is proud to be a part of this record breaking moment as we work towards our goal of achieve carbon neutral operations for 2040. Electrifying our entire package pickup and delivery fleet is a crucial component of that goal,” said Mitch Jackson, FedEx chief sustainability officer.

BrightDrop and FedEx documented the trip through cameras placed inside and outside the vehicle.
