Food Stamp applicants in some states are once again receiving an automatic benefit increase for May.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has provided emergency allowances during Covid to help struggling households.
The plan funding was announced in April of 1200 and gave the USDA an additional $1 billion per month for SNAP.
Initially, the funds expired in September of 2021, but have since been extended several times.
The last public health emergency was scheduled to expire on 15 of April, but it was extended for other 80 days last week.
This means that states that are still providing allocations for people who receive food stamps can continue to do so.
Although the amount of extra money that eligible families can receive generally depends on the size of the family, $95 dollars is the amount minimum granted.
Some states have already eliminated the additional benefit, including Nebraska and Tennessee.
Meanwhile, a larger number still continue to pay increased benefits through May.
The following states, including Washington, DC, offer SNAP benefits extended for May: New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Wisconsin.
If your state does not If you’re on the list, you may still be able to approve emergency benefits in the days and weeks ahead.

Each state has a different application form, but when you connect with your local SNAP program, the agents there should be able to help you with the application process.
Generally, SNAP is limited to people with gross income up to 130% of the poverty line federal. Your SNAP benefits will also depend on your family size and the state you live in.
