According to a lawsuit filed in a Los Angeles court, Óscar de la Hoya committed sexual assault on two different occasions on a woman that she was an executive of the tequila company of which the legendary boxer is a partner.
According to the lawsuit obtained by the Los Angeles Times and other media, De La Hoya knocked on the door of the woman’s hotel room in Mexico during a business trip to the Casa Mexico tequila distillery. When she opened the door, he had his pants down, he went into the room and put the woman on the bed. The document says that she pushed him out of bed and then walked him to his room.
The next morning, when De La Hoya was not showed up for the start of work activities, the woman, identified by USA Today as Gina Ruccione, went to wake him up and the promoter pulled her to her bed and sexually assaulted her.
A second sexual assault took place after the group returned to Los Angeles, where according to the lawsuit the company executives had dinner at a restaurant and later went to De la Hoya’s house.
“At a certain point, when De la Hoya was alone with (the woman), he showed her and removed a sexual object from his collection at his home. Without his consent, De la Hoya forcibly inserted the sexual object into his body “, reads in the lawsuit according to the Los Angeles Times report.
The lawsuit filed is civil against Casa México and includes several causes, including sexual harassment, gender discrimination and unfair dismissal, as it is accused that the men in control of the company -Michael Gooch and Robert Crossan- condoned De la Hoya’s behavior.
So far there has been no response regarding the lawsuit from De la Hoya or de Casa México Tequila.
Last summer, De la Hoya revealed during a chat with the Los Angeles Times that when he had 13 years old was raped by a woman of 35 during a boxing tournament in Hawaii, an incident that he said was traumatic and caused him a series of conflicts in his adult life, including I have an addiction problem.
De la Hoya has been in the news a lot lately due to boxing conflicts, especially for his public confrontation with Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez , who decided to break his working relationship with him during 1200 through a lawsuit. In a chat with Real America News, the promoter said that this break could be due to some of his comments about Eddy Reynoso, Álvarez’s coach.
