The last fighters defending Mariupol still occupy sectors of the city and will not surrender to the Russian troops, said the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmygal, in an interview broadcast by the American television channel ABC this Sunday (17.04.2022).

“Our military forces, our soldiers are still there. They will fight to the end,” Shmygal assured on the This Week program hours after a Russian ultimatum demanding that they lay down their arms.

The prime minister also rejected the claims Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent reports that Moscow’s troops were winning the war.

“Not a single great city has fallen. Only (the city of) Kherson is under the control of the Russian forces, but all other cities are under the control of Ukraine”, Chmygal insisted.

, detailed that more than 900 municipalities, including the capital kyiv, remained free from Russian occupation.
