Pachuca will make a statue in tribute to the Colombian legend Miguel Calero

Pachuca goalkeeping legend Miguel Calero will have a life-size bronze statue at the Hidalgo Stadium as a tribute to his history with the Mexican club.

The team announced it this Thursday, International Goalkeeper’s Day, reported the Pachuca board at a press conference led by the president of the Tuzos, Armando Martínez.

The statue will be to honor the memory of the Colombian goalkeeper, who defended the fences of the Mexican club for more than a decade and passed away on December 4, 2012. The Pachuca board informed that the idea was thanks to the fans of the tuzos and that it was an idea proposed for more than a year.

“Today is Goalkeeper’s Day’, it is no coincidence to choose that day, because today is the birthday of Miguelito”, said Armando Martínez.

En the event for the announcement of the statue were Martín Peláez, vice president of Pachuca, and Iván Alonso, sports director of the team, and the star goalkeeper of the Tuzas, Estefanny Barreras, among other members of the club.

Juan José Calero, son of the historic goalkeeper of the Tuzos, thanked the board for the love and respect that he always had for his father.

“We will be eternally grateful, because they have made my father’s name last for generations,” said ‘Juanjo’ Calero.

Miguel Calero Jr., who is back at Pachuca in a executive position, also stated that he is proud that Pachuca maintains his father’s name in Mexican soccer as a tribute.

Club Pachuca announced that it will open an account bank for fans to make their financial contribution to the construction of the figure of Calero. This account will be kept by a committee of players and fans.

It was also reported that the names of the fans who decide to contribute their money to make the monument of their idol will be engraved on the base of the statue.

The goal is to unveil the statue of Miguel Calero in December, the day of the anniversary of winning the Copa Sudamericana 2006 by de los Tuzos.
