The Republican took the opportunity to announce that he will speak with the Mexican governors of Coahuila and Tamaulipas to reach similar agreements that help reinforce border security and prevent the illegal entry of immigrants into the United Statess “We are showing how border governors can achieve results,” Abbott stressed at a press conference.

The governor had called on the governors of Chihuahua, Tamaulipas and Coahuila to join the effort.

Abbott indicated today that after the agreement to strengthen security and prevent the entry of undocumented migrants from Chihuahua, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will be able to “return to random inspections” on the shared border but will continue to carry out inspections on the bridges that its state shares with Tamaulipas and Coahuila until meet with the governors of those entities.

The Republican , who is seeking re-election this year, imposed new state inspections on cargo transportation last week in order to detain undocumented immigrants, but along the way he has obstructed the 60 % of binational commercial traffic, according to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP)

Abbott has faced criticism for the economic impacts derived from delays at border crossings, which are estimated at 8 million dollars a day and mainly affect the assembly, automotive, technology and perishable industries, according to the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) of Mexico.

In today’s conference Abbott highlighted that Chihuahua has committed to use the Sentinel platform, which has about 10, surveillance cameras, and that “will allow the Chihuahua State Police to monitor the vehicles from the moment they leave the industrial parks in Juárez until they cross the border.”

He highlighted that Campos Galván presented “the best border security plan that I have seen from any governor of Mexico”.

For her part, the governor of Chihuahua said that “ it’s a situation where we both (states) win and protect our borders, and we protect the security of our state like Governor Abbott is doing in this moment”.
