A suspicion of salmonella contamination in Europe has led the Italian confectionery brand Ferrero to voluntarily withdraw some of its products from US markets.

Through a report, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said that the assortment of chocolate Kinder Happy Moments and the Kinder Mix chocolate basket “were manufactured in a facility where Salmonella thphimurium was detected”, with no case reported in the country so far.

“Ferrero is voluntarily recalling the products as a precaution due to reported cases of Salmonella in consumers who consumed products in Europe that were manufactured in the same facilities,” reads a statement from the company. FDA.

This decision is given after in days past, at least 21 cases of salmonellosis were detected in France. In the European country, eight four-year-old children, on average, had to be hospitalized. In the United Kingdom 37 cases more associated with the consumption of these products made in the Belgian factory were reported of Arlon.

The Food Safety News outlet reports that eight countries have reported more than 100 infections linked to Ferrero products, between December 2021 and March 2022.

“The company takes food safety very seriously and we sincerely apologize for this matter. Our continued commitment to consumer care has driven our decision to extend the voluntary recall,” the company said in a statement.

The Italian company has advised its consumers that if they have some of their affected products on the shelves of their homes, they should not consume them. “We urge consumers to check at home to see if they have any of the products and if they do, make sure they don’t eat them,” he said.

According to the National Library of Medicine, salmonella is a group of bacteria and is the most common cause of foodborne illness in the United States . It can cause symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, headaches, vomiting, and nausea. This infection can be serious in older adults, young children and patients with chronic diseases.

Ferrero is working with the FDA to address this matter.
