With the discovery of at least 20 bags with human remains, relatives of disappeared persons concluded the search for graves in abandoned houses of the municipality of Tlajomulco, in the Mexican state of Jalisco, west of the country and known for being the territory of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes “El Mencho”

Patricia Flores, president of Searching Mothers of Sonora, one of the groups of relatives who joined this activity, said that the field work they carry out from the Last Friday has been fruitful, despite the fact that the state authorities have been slow to allow the removal of the remains found.

“On Friday we found 04 bags, is what has been processed so far because they take a long time to deliver the documents for the search warrants, if they were faster at least It would be better if we had more, but the other farms that we have found are in process,” he explained.

The concealment of corpses in clandestine graves inside abandoned houses or under cement in public places such as parks or sidewalks, has been one of the peculiarities that family members have had to facer in this entity, leader in the number of disappearances with 14,918 cases.

This has forced the groups to request the support of the Jalisco Attorney General’s Office to obtain permits so that the Forensic Medical Services can enter the farms to dig up and take away the human remains for later identification.

But it has also given a new search perspective to the groups, who before arriving in Jalisco I did not They had had to search inside houses, but only in vacant lots or outside the cities, says Flores.

“Since we started doing this in Jalisco, we do it in Sonora and we have also found in houses. It was an eye opener, we took off the blindfold of thinking that in vacant houses, but it is the perfect place because nobody is going to look and neighbors are not going to say anything because they are afraid”, he expressed.

Observe the terrain

Armed with shovels, mallets and rods, groups from four states worked for the second time in the search for graves in the entity thanks to the anonymous complaints made by citizens and with those who draw up a plan before visiting the entity.

Once there, they observe and measure the land with a rod that sink to at least a meter and a half deep.

If the ground is not compact or certain odors or components come out of the rod, they have found “ a positive”, that is to say, that it is very likely that there is a pit. The finding is confirmed or denied after a protocol in which specialized dogs and agents from the Prosecutor’s Office, the municipal police and the entity’s Search Commission participate.

If the existence of human remains is confirmed, the relatives dig until they are found and then leave the responsibility to the authorities who take the case to secure and preserve the area, wait for the search warrant to arrive and for Semefo to act.

Flores announced that for this second visit they received complaints from 22 points where there could be pits, of which they could only cover 30 that will be visited by groups from Jalisco or in a third visit yet to be defined.

This Sunday, a part of the search focused on the neighborhood (neighborhood) Chulavista where the collective reviewed three farms and found two “positive” that had previously been ruled out by the Prosecutor’s Office. The human remains will be picked up this Monday.

In the first search carried out at the end of February, the relatives found 280 bags at various points in the cities of Tlajomulco and Tlaquepaque in which there could be remains of up to 80 people who remain in the Semefo.

The groups from Sonora and other states will conduct new field searches in the coming days in cities such as Los Mochis, Sinaloa and Sonora, in addition to a search in the border strip of the state of Tamaulipas.
