With the list of buyers restricted to four candidates, Chelsea is aiming for a sale by the end of April, that is, a month and a half after the sanctions imposed by the British Government to its owner, the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.

On March 28 the offer period closed and in the last few days, the favorites they have exposed their projects until the Raine Group, the US bank that Abramovich trusted to sell the club, has selected the best offers. The three strongest come from the United States.

The 18 April is the deadline for Boris Johnson’s government to receive the chosen candidate from the four remaining in the race to take over Chelsea. According to Sky Sports, that same week Downing Street will issue a special license so that the transaction can be carried out and the club changes hands for the first time since Abramovich became with him in 2021.

Once the Government issues the license, the Premier League will have to approve the purchase, a process that, according to the executive president of the league, Richard Masters, could take about ten days. However, the manager assured that, if it was necessary to do it more quickly, it could be done in less time.

Raine Group, the American bank that is managing the sale of Chelsea, selected last week the four best offers that have come. These are the Ricketts family, owners of the Chicago Cubs, the consortium led by Todd Boehly, co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, billionaire Stephen Pagliuca, owner of the Boston Celtics and the Italian Atalanta, and, finally, Martin Broughton, former president of British Airways and Liverpool.

One of those four candidates will be the new owner of Chelsea, which, until the operation is completed, will continue with its assets frozen and its capacity for action limited in financial terms.

2022

Chelsea will be the most expensive club in history. Neither the 950 millions that the Glazers paid for Manchester United, nor the 330 that Saudi Arabia paid a few months ago for Newcastle United will come close to 3.300 million that the Stamford Bridge complex will reach when its sale is completed in the coming weeks. All that remains is to solve the puzzle of who will put up the money.
