Honduras vs. Mexico: What the 'Tri' has against for the penultimate game of the Qualifiers

Sergio Musella

The National Team of Mexico is on the verge of sealing its qualification for the World Cup in Qatar 2022, but first they must beat the Honduran National Team in San Pedro Sula, a place that has been very difficult to achieve good results in the Qualifiers.

For the match against the catrachos, El Tri has several things against it and could harm them by sending them to the playoffs, however, Mexico has several aspects to consider for the match that will be played at the San Pedro Sula Olympic.

San Pedro Sula is a fort for Honduras

In the last 24 years, Mexico has only been able to get a victory in the Concacaf Qualifiers against Honduras and it was precisely in the World Cup cycle for Russia 2018, when in the regular round they won by 3 goals to 0 to the catrachos, but in the past hexagonal they have not been able to get the three points.

Alexis Vega will not be present due to suspension

The forward of the Chivas de Guadalajara and the Mexico National Team , Alexis Vega, will not be available for the match due to card accumulation. In the last match against the United States National Team, the attacker received a yellow card that does not allow him to be part of the commitment, although he will be available for the last match against El Salvador.

Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino’s absence due to health issues

Mexico’s coach, Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino could not make the trip to Honduras due to surgery performed on one of his eyes due to retinal detachment, forcing the coach to follow the match from Mexico City, while Jorge Theiler, technical assistant, will be the commissioned to be on the bench with El Tri in San Pedro Sula.

Mexico had to train at the Francisco Morazán and did not recognize the Olympic Stadium

One of the things that is against the Mexican team for the game against Honduras, is that they could not recognize the playing field of the Municipal Olympic Stadium of San Pedro Sula , because of a storm that fell on the Honduran city.

Upon their arrival in Honduras, they were only able to do physical recovery work at the team hotel and a short practice session at the Francisco Morazán Stadium, one of the other stadiums that the catracha city has.

Mexico depends on himself to seal his direct ticket to the World Cup in Qatar, but a tie or defeat will force him to depend on what he does United States and Costa Rica in their respective commitments.
