Six teens killed in collision with truck in Oklahoma that failed to stop at stop sign before entering highway, witnesses reported, according to an update of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation.

The youths were traveling in a small car when it collided with a truck at an intersection in the town of Tshomingo, about 200 miles south of Oklahoma City.

The people who witnessed the traffic accident said that the Chevy entered US-377 after failing to stop at a stop sign that regulates vehicular traffic and that the road speed is 80 km/h. So he was hit by the truck in the front left, causing him to be pushed off the road.

The semitrailer after colliding went off the road and parked on a private road. According to the statement, the truck driver had no injuries.

The investigations into the incident continue and the NTSB, in conjunction with the Patrol Highway Patrol of Oklahoma, sent a group of four detectives and a family assistance expert to Oklahoma to investigate various things.

Among them they will evaluate the conditions of the road, such as lighting, as well as the climatic conditions, also the history of accidents in the place and the possible reasons behind a human error. Also, the vehicle’s compliance with federal and state regulations.

With everything mentioned above, the detectives will reconstruct the facts of the accident and analyze physical evidence and damage to the vehicle, the statement said.

It is estimated that the investigative work ends on Monday and a preliminary report is expected at the end of next month. The full investigation, which would include probable cause and any contributing factors, will be completed next year or two.

“On behalf of our students, staff, families and community, I want to thank you for your consideration, prayers and encouragement”, said Bobby Waitman, Superintendent of Tishomingo Public Schools, in a statement.

“At the start of the process Heartbroken, I am reminded that our highest priority as educators is to meet the emotional, mental, social, and physical needs of our students. This is our focus right now, and every day we serve our students,” Waitman’s statement added.
