If you have between $11 and $30 million dollars to participate in an auction, prepare the portfolio , because Christie’s house announced the auction of the largest white diamond in the world .
With 228.31 carats, ‘The Rock’, as this stone was baptized, will open the bidding floor in Dubai, to later be exhibited in Taipei, New York and Geneva, Switzerland, waiting for you to find a buyer.
This “exceptionally rare gem”, according to Christie’s description in a statement, was mined in South Africa more than 20 years and is, for now, the Largest white diamond of its kind.
“The Rock will join the best legendary gemstones that have passed through Christie’s worldwide sales rooms since 1766,” Rahul Kadakia, Christie’s international head of jewelry, said in the statement.
‘ The Rock’ goes up for auction in the midst of one of the most strident energy and geopolitical crises in recent years, with world oil prices skyrocketing and the war in Ukraine due to the Russian invasion.
However, the auction house is optimistic and believes that the value and beauty of the diamond will attract the attention of luxury collectors around the world .
“The diamond market is particularly vibrant and we are confident that this sensational gemstone will capture the attention of collectors around the world this spring season”, he added.
The Gemological Institute of America specified that ‘The Rock’ is a G color diamond, VS1 clarity, shaped of ‘pear’ color DZ, the “largest ever qualified by the laboratory”.
‘The Rock’ arrives at Christie’s exhibition halls with the banner of breaking all records.
The last auction of this type was in 2017, in Geneva, with what was then the largest gem of its kind. A white diamond of 163.41 carats. This gem was sold for $33.7 million dollars.
‘The Rock’ is will be on view from today through 02 March at Christie’s Dubai; later in Taipei and in the Rockefeller Plaza in New York, of the 11 of April to May 1.
Finally, it will be the star of the famous Week Christie’s Luxury, which will take place from 6 to 11 May at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva.
