Biden meets in Poland with Ukrainian foreign and defense ministers in Warsaw

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, met this Saturday in Warsaw with the foreign ministers and Defense of Ukraine, Dmitro Kuleba and Oleksii Reznikov, respectively.

In a brief statement, the White House announced that Biden planned to “participate in part of a meeting” in the Polish capital between the Ukrainian ministers and the United States Secretaries of State and Defense, Antony Blinken and Lloyd Austin, who are accompanying the president on his trip.

Shortly before noon, the press had access to the beginning of the meeting, in which Biden was sitting on one side of a long table with Blinken, Austin and other of his advisers; in front of Kuleba, Reznikov and other Ukrainian officials.

Journalists were able to hear Kuleba tell Biden that since the war began, he has learned to “sleep in any circumstance”, which allowed him to rest during the train that took him to Warsaw.

Biden replied that he can also sleep on trains , thanks to the fact that when he was a senator, he took them daily to move from the US capital to the state where he lived, Delaware.

Kuleba assured in a tweet that the meeting with that large delegation from the United States It will allow “to seek practical solutions in the political and defense spheres, to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to fight against Russian aggression.”

For its part, Rézni kov stated on his official Twitter account that both ministers will be present at the speech on the war in Ukraine that Biden will give this Saturday at 18: 00 hours (17: 00 GMT) at the Royal Palace in Warsaw.

The meeting between the US and Ukrainian delegations lasted more than an hour and a half, and Biden was present at it for about 40 minutes, according to the White House.

The meeting was also attended by the Ukrainian ambassador to Poland, Andrii Deshchytsia; and the American chargé d’affaires in Ukraine, Kristina Kvien.

After that meeting, Biden planned meet with the Polish president, Andrzej Duda, before visiting the PGE Narodowy football stadium, converted into a refugee center to care for some of the more than 2,09 millions who have fled to Poland since the war began.

In addition to meeting with refugees, Biden will interact with the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, and with the organizations that are carrying out the humanitarian response, including the anti-hunger organization World Central Kitchen , founded by the Spanish chef José Andrés.

The speech that Biden will give before flying back to Washington will be focused on “the united efforts of the world l Free to support the people of Ukraine”, according to the White House.

During their European tour, which began on Wednesday, Biden has also visited the US military near the border with Ukraine and has participated in three NATO summits in Brussels, the G7 and the European Union (EU) focused on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
