A baby was abandoned on the hood of a parked car on Wednesday while the police were looking for information.

The Connecticut State Police are looking for a man that was seen by the owner of the vehicle when she left the baby on the car.

The police received a call at 911 from the woman around 4: 15 pm after she said the suspect got into a dark colored vehicle and fled the area , according to KWTX.

State police said the baby was transported to an area hospital where was determined to be a premature newborn from 28 to 30 weeks.

The baby was reported in stable condition.

The Ma Crimes Department yors of the Eastern District of the state police launched an investigation to find the man who apparently abandoned the baby.

“ The man was described as Hispanic, stocky, with short black hair, wearing a black long-sleeved T-shirt and black jogger-style pants“ , state police said.

According to KWTX, Connecticut has a safe haven law that allows parents to leave a newborn in the emergency department of a hospital within the first 30 days of the baby’s life without fear of being prosecuted for abandonment.

The law was established to prevent babies from being abandoned in dangerous places.

In the past, babies were left in garbage cans and public toilets.

The Department of Children and Families says that more than 30 babies have been potentially saved from abandonment thanks to the law.

It is unclear how relevant the law is to this case at this time.

Anyone with information on the man’s identity, location, or where his vehicle might be is asked to contact Detective Matthew Hogan at 860-896-3236. All information can be provided anonymously, police said.
