The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection in Mexico, Rosa Isela Rodríguez, reported that during February a total of 2 were registered,112 intentional homicides in Mexico, which translates into 80 murders per day.
However, he assured that in the last nine months, intentional homicide in Mexico has remained on the decline until reaching last February to a reduction of 10.4 percent.
During the explanation of the statistics, he placed Michoacán as the entity more dangerous due to the number of intentional homicides that occurred from January to February 2022, in that period 484 homicides in the state, followed by Guanajuato with 477 cases; Baja California with 388; Mexico state, 380; Jalisco 315 and Chihuahua with 282 violent deaths.
When referring to the 65 municipalities with the most intentional homicides last February lead the Tijuana list with 80 cases; Juarez with 77; León and Morelia with 39 cases respectively, however, the secretary highlighted that in January past there were 979 illicit of this type and the following month the figure dropped to 877, which is equivalent to 10.4% less.
Furthermore, it highlighted that 50% of the cases of this crime continue to be concentrated in six entities in the country: Michoacán, Guanajuato, Baja California, State of Mexico , Jalisco and Chihuahua.
Reduction of femicides
The official specified that in February of 2022, femicide fell by 29% with respect to the historical maximum of August of 2021, although 78 cases were recorded. And he specified that they continue to work in coordination with the states to combat this crime.
This means that in February 2021 there were 78 women victims of femicide, a figure that is compared with 77 of January and the 112 in August 2021.
