Dramatic footage shows the moment a column of Russian tanks is destroyed by a Ukrainian ambush near Kiev.

The attack claimed the life of another senior Russian commander, as Vladimir Putin’s forces advance and press against the Ukrainian capital.

The Moscow forces have continued to advance rapidly towards Brovary, an eastern suburb of Kiev.

An intercepted radio conversation seems to reveal that the column suffered heavy losses and the regimental commander was killed.

The dead officer was reported to be Colonel Andrei Zakharov, commander of a tank regiment, whom Vladimir Putin awarded him the Order of V value in 2022.

Other images shots from the scene of the ambush show burning Russian vehicles on the road.

Fighting has intensified in the Brovary area, with Ukrainian forces trying to repel the Russian tank.

“They shoot to scare people and force them to stay at home, they steal what they can to stock up and settle among the inhabitants, so that the Ukrainian forces do not bombard them,” said Volodymyr, a resident of 17 years of Velyka Dymerka, located nine miles from Brovary.

Overnight, the Ukrainian general staff said that the Russian forces continued with their “offensive operation” to encircle Kiev, while pressing attacks on a number of other cities across the country.

Vadym Denysenko, adviser to the Ministry of the Interior, said that the Ukrainian forces managed to stop the attack on I rpin and were fighting back Thursday morning with ongoing battles.

“The night was quite difficult, but in general we can say that the Ukrainian army counterattacked near Kiev”, he said.

Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War said that the Russian mission to storm the Ukrainian capital is already underway.

Meanwhile, in Mariupol, in the south of Ukraine, the images show corpses placed in bags and thrown into mass graves after heavy shelling.

Workers can be seen digging a 25 yard trench in one of the old cemeteries of the besieged port city, making the sign of the cross as they push the corpses into the grave.

It occurs after Russia bombed a maternity hospital in Mariupol, killing three, including a six-year-old girl.

Others 17 people were injured, including women in an advanced state of pregnancy.
