Virginia man tried to kill his grandfather in his sleep by setting his house on fire with a propane tank

A resident of Webster Springs, was arrested by authorities and charged with attempted murder and other criminal charges, after setting fire to his grandfather’s house, while he was sleeping.

The Cowen Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call of emergency of a residence located on Williams River Road, where two men managed to stay alive.

During the time firefighters were trying to put out the fire, they saw Joshua Dunlap he went into the house that was still on fire. They did not reveal the man’s motives for wanting to enter the property during the incident.

The authorities had to put the hoses aside to keep him out of the building and to be able to continue putting out the fire that consumed the entire house being a total loss.

In the investigation folder, Roger Dunlap, Joshua’s grandfather, stated that that night woke up and discovered that his grandson had started the fire with a 100 pound propane tank the one who set fire and only watched it burn, explained the news 09WBOY.

Roger Dunlap managed to get the burning tank out into the yard so it wouldn’t explode inside of the house, but the flames were already beginning to consume the entire residence, until the firefighters arrived to calm the fire.

Roger Dunlap, the grandfather was treated by doctors for minor burns and the damage caused by inhaling the smoke from the fire, but he is in stable condition.

Joshua Dunlap was charged with attempted murder, arson at first degree and obstruction of a firefighter . The 24 year old man is already being held in the Central Regional Jail on a fixed cash bail of $800,000 dollars.
