The Puerto Rican Prosecutor’s Office filed charges this Wednesday against the alleged perpetrators of the murder of former world boxing champion Héctor Luis “Macho” Camacho

and his friend Adrián Mojica, who died on the island as a result of gunshots in November 2012.

The Secretary of Justice of Puerto Rico, Domingo Emanuelli, said at a press conference that with the filing today of charges against five of the alleged murderers of the former world star of boxing peace is given to the country where he was born in 1962.

“Impunity has no place in the new Department of Justice.

If you committed a crime, for sure we are going for you”, assured Emanuelli forcefully.

The announcement of charges culminates a long investigation started a decade ago against the alleged killers of the boxer , an event that shocked public opinion due to the trajectory and figure of the controversial “Macho” Camacho.

The mythical boxer was world champion for the first time in 1983 by winning the super lightweight title of the World Boxing Council (WBC) after defeating Mexican Rafael “Bazooka” Limón by technical knockout.

Prosecutor Janet Parra pointed out that the process initiated ten years ago by the Puerto Rico Police culminated today with the presentation of 20 criminal charges by the Department of Justice.

The defendants are Wilfredo Rodríguez, Juan Figueroa, Luis Ayala, Jesús Naranjo and Joshua Méndez. Two other defendants were murdered years ago in settling scores for drug-related matters.

Judge Milagros Muñiz, of the Court of First Instance of Bayamón, found cause for arrest for all the crimes filed by the Public Ministry.

Regarding why charges were filed against the alleged murderers a decade after the homicides, the prosecutor clarified that is now, 10 years later, when the evidence was obtained that allowed the five detainees to be charged.
